When To Let Them Go

There are some times when you have to let go of someone you love, because it is the right thing to do. It sounds so cheesy, so cliché, and yet is it what it is and how it has to be at times. Sometimes they are the ones leaving you, and sometimes you have to be the one to leave them. Either way, it’s always hard. It’s hard to know when it’s that time, and when you know, it is difficult to go through with it.
And then sometimes it’s hard to know if you did the right thing or not. You hope you did, it not for yourself, then for them. But sometimes, you become unsure, and unsettled. Sometimes you want to go back, and you find that there is a point in time where you cannot actually turn back.
The hardest is when it is someone you were and still are in love with. Sometimes, it’s because you know somewhere in your heart of hearts that they would be better off without you, and sometimes, it’s because you know that they need someone who can give them something you cannot or will not give them for whatever reason. You know they deserve something better, whether they happen to agree with you or not right now.
And when it’s someone you are in love, you then go through the pain of watching them build a family and really a life with them. That is the worst part, watching them do all the things you should’ve done together with someone else, even when you know it’s the way it has to be. You still wish it was different.
When someone dies you hope that they go to heaven if you’re religious, and whether you are or not, you hope that they are out of any pain that they may have been in, whether you happened to know about it or not. But when that person you were in love with is still there, it’s somewhat harder to stand by. I am by no means saying that you wish they would die or it would be better if they were dead. It’s just harder.
